When you are fighting someone with an Assault Rifle, do NOT use your scope. You will get un-scoped, become disoriented, and end up dead.
If you see an enemy crouched or rounding a corner, try bouncing a frag grenade or plasma grenade off the wall next to them. If it hits anywhere close, it will take their shield down to (or close to) nothing. After that, a single headshot will take care of the rest. They won't even know what hit them.
Great weapon to have on Valhalla! --Jaslar31546 06:47, 21 December 2007 (CET)
When wielding the BR, consider:

Lead your fire in such a way where your all your bullets in each burst make contact with your target. Therefore aim the first 3 bursts at the targets body slowing raising your aim to finish him off with a headshot on burst number 4. Remember that it doesn't matter where you hit your enemy as long as he has his shield. (NB: This is not true for all weapons. Some can penetrate the electrostatic force shield, like the Sniper Rifle) --III Pornstar III
Reload on first opportunity. The Battle Rifle has a relatively short reload time. Make sure you always have more than half a clip, as reloading in mid fight is never to your advantage.
if you get the chance and you have a power wepon like the sniper trade BR in for a carbine or if you have no power wepon and combo is AR BR trade AR in for carbine eliminating need to reload in mid fight-GOLDEN PH0ENIX2
If you are caught by surprise with close quarters combat weapons such as the Shotgun, move in such away that minimized damage, such as strafing left and right, and gives you the positional advantage to hit the target easier.
The Br is possibly the best lone wolves weapon in the game. When I first started playing halo 3, I always used the AR, and was just out of reach to get a kill in a fight between two other ARs. However, the BR is an excellent weapon to use, just wait until they are about to kill one another and steal their kill with a couple of headshots. I can easily get MVP on lone wolves by doing this every time.
When approaching your enemy, increase your advantage by attacking him in a range or position which your target will have a hard time turning the tables, such as on a cliff or behind an object.
As much as possible, approach in such a way where you get the first shot!
If you have a Shotgun as your secondary weapon, you "should" be suited for all circumstances. --KillerCRS
Fixed/Added info --Kite88

If you notice an enemy is wielding a shotgun, sword or gravity hammer, most likely they are going to run at you in a straight line. If you have some distance, calmly shoot him with four easy headshots. But be aware that if the player is experienced he might throw a plasma grenade and retreat. --Gamertag:Midnight Rakdos
Battle rifles are a must. (if you perfect your aiming skill you can use this weapon effectively at any range) Head shots are a must.
If your targeted enemy is long range then remember to lead with your reticle. In doing so your target will actually run into your rounds. Think of it as placing your rounds down range and allowing your target to hit them. If your reticle is on your targets head then by the time your rounds get down range your target will be out of that AO (Area of Operation)
Keep your reticle at head-level as it gives you those few extra milliseconds of time. Doing this will allow you to use the left thumbstick to strafe while acquiring the head shot. Experts at aiming will use the left and right thumbstick in conjunction and still be able to keep the reticle head level.
When attacked by the Battle Rifle keep in mind that they will try to lay down a headshot on you when you have lost all your shield. Jumping right before they shoot will give you a second or more to live which may turn the fight. In general use knowledge like this to "surprise" your opponent. All ways be a step or more a head. Be creative - dot follow the standard pattern. --III Pornstar III
When going around corners into a larger area use the right thumbstick to sweep the whole area at head-level. Experts at aiming will automatically be able to stop the sweep on their enemies head. Not an expert and can't stop on their head? Then remember that you can fan out those three bullets by pulling the trigger while moving the reticle.
When you come across hallways or any long range area zoom in (push the right thumbstick).
If you cannot make it to cover or there is no room to strafe jump (such as a corridor) and you must jump, always jump towards your enemy. Jumping away from your enemy makes you vulnerable to a grenade as most players tend to throw them past their opponents. Sounds foolish but if you are an expert at aiming you will head shot them every time. If you are not an expert at aiming then just use the right thumbstick to move your reticle down not the left thumbstick as you can not alter your direction of travel while in mid-air. Remember the battle rifle shoots three bullets at at time so you can allow your jumping motion to force your reticle onto their head. If executed properly you should have not to move your reticle much at all.
At long range it is best to use the left stick to move your reticle left or right so you can lead the target better. Also if you are higher in elevation you can use the left thumbstick to move your reticle up and down. Using the right thumbstick tends to be jerky or choppy at long range. Using the left thumbstick is a smoother and more controlled way to move your reticle for those long range targets.
Hug corners as you turn them. Keeping your reticle head level. This will keep your enemy from getting behind you. --Ahlchemy
It is possible to take on an assault rifle even at medium range as long as your make your shots. If the player with the BR lands all 4 of their shots they will usually win the encounter. However one thing you should NOT do in this situation is go for the melee as the AR will lower your SHIELDS faster and thus win a simultaneous melee.
If you miss a headshot with the sniper(shame on you) and just remove their shield, switch to the battle rifle and finish them of. This way you will save ammunition and give other enemies a hard time trying to find the person with the sniper. This of cause depends a lot on the situation. PS: Dont use the BR+sniper combo in small maps. --III Pornstar III
Having some teammate running around in front with AR and shotguns while you and others being behind with snipers and battle rifles makes your team deadly. Remember not to use your firepower until the enemy has jumped into your little trap. --III Pornstar III*
On maps where you respawn close to a BR pick one up, and move to a Hot-Spot, be out of range of the AR and throw a grenade at opposing player. This should deplete their shield and leave you with an easy kill.
When enemies are running away, it usually means that they have low shields. Hit them with a headshot or two for the kill.
A good counter BR strategy when you are out of shields is to look at the floor and present your back to the gunner. This will make it impossible for him to kill you with a 1-burst headshot and hopefully enough time to run for cover.-- Killerbeezes
If you have a sniper rifle, consider taking a BR as well, that way, if you miss the headshot, but still hit them, then you can switch to the BR and hit em with that, saving sniper ammo,
This is the perfect strategy, go for a multi-location shot. Using the burst shot the legs the chest and the head, instant KO almost every time.
Try using the BR as a Support Sniper weapon, weakening targets who are engaging or about to engage your allies downrange. Taking down 1/3 of the opponent's shield with a headshot will help your allies be efficient, even if you don't kill the target yourself.--MordaciousBeast 05:00, 7 November 2007 (CET)
Like all weapons that need reloading, after EVERY time you use it you MUST RELOAD before anything else, you never know what is behind the next corner - TOXIC RAINBOW
If attempting to take down a fleeing enemy (like the enemy flag carrier in a CTF game) try jumping up behind them, this will make the head of the fleeing enemy more prominent, thus making the headshots more easy to land accurately. (this tactic saves my team from failure as i was able to take down the enemy flag carrier just before he scored) --That worm 20:40, 2 January 2008 (CET)
The BR is one of the best "clean up" weapons of the game as long as you aim for the head.
It's always a good idea to have a battle rifle, too many people on halo never use it, and it's such an effective killer at practically all ranges. Just make sure you practice your no scope headshots as much as possible, and keep moving at all times. Only throw a grenade whilst in combat using the BR when you have the chance, i.e. your enemy is unaware of you or fleeing round a corner - never in direct combat, as the time you spend throwing a grenade can easily be used to put the rest of the headshots in you need for the kill, an can often result in your enemy killing you with a snappy melee OR by doing what YOU should have just done. Best weapon to support the BR is the Plasma Pistol, just charge it, fire it, switch to BR an claim your easy one shot head kill.
The Battle Rifle is quite possibly one of the best weapons in the game whether it be used at a range while the better part of the team attacks mass while you sniper and assist them or in single engagements.
The Battle Rifle is also one of the easiest weapons to find in the Game therefore ammo is not such a commodity as it is with the Sniper Rifle --GT Wack Face Killa
With the new BRs gametype, it becomes even more important to master aiming with this weapon. The key is: Headshot. It takes two or three hits in the body (once shields are down) to kill, it only takes one headshot. You should also make sure to shoot wisely. By this I mean you shouldn't be shooting at people right before they head around a corner 100-feet away. Know how far you can shoot from and actually have a chance at killing the enemy before they are out of range or behind cover.--Mr. Killtacular
Remember, when facing an opponent with full shields, you don't have to hit the head when taking down shields, because it doesn't make any difference whether you hit in the head or torso. At medium range, aim for the chest for the first 3 shots and finish off with a headshot. You are aiming at a larger target, so your bullets have a greater chance of hitting.
I keep seeing people say "Aim for the head" and "aim with the left stick" but sometimes when you aim with the left stick you run into a wall. So one method of aiming the should be apparent, though I had to spend some time to figure it out is to stay calm and cool enough to not just flick the right stick around but be gentle and only move it slowly so as to keep more control of the reticule. -Kalazahr
When leading a target, visualize where they will want to go or how they will evade, then visualize countering it. Sometimes it is obvious where their next piece of cover or intended destination (power weapons/objectives) will be. Think of what what most players do from that angle, and you'll find them walking into your bullets.
The first 3 bursts can hit any part of a target's shield and still do full damage, so focus on lining up the crosshair laterally first. Don't worry so much about vertically lining up on their head until their shield is almost down - as long as you within their hitbox you are fine. Most of their side-to-side movement can be matched with your own movement unless they sharply change strafe direction or you hit a wall; at this point in the fight, make minor side-to-side corrections while primarily lining up the Y-axis... onto their head. -Dtekkare
Remember small corrections with the look stick are far better than sweeping the crosshair past a target. Small changes in acceleration of the crosshair is easier for your brain to line up with a moving target than sharp wild ones. Your adjustments of the crosshair should start sharply and as the battle progresses, then get finer and finer. As your skill improves, eventually you should need only one sharp movement to get to their upper chest.
Aiming for the chin is ideal, as the final two shots in the burst will not go over the head. -Pvpness pump
I have a decent tip to help you on gaurdian. If you manage to get the BR the next thing you need is a Plasma Pistol, this is a very useful weapon because it will curve into them and it is hard to avoid if you shoot it right. right as soon as you fire switch to the BR and then wait for it to hit them, then all you do is shoot em in the head. I use this alot when im playing since the time it takes the charge to hit them i can be aimed for my head shot. --Iztrik 15:31, 16 May 2008 (CEST)
A good strafe is always important but the ability to four shot is more important a circle strafe is better for accuracy and a triangle strafe is good for bullet avoidance but a side to side strafe will cause your opponent to miss a lot of shots. Ghandi hopping(crouch jumping) will allow you to be as small of a target as possible but will eliminate the ability to strafe but using a proper balance of both of these techniques will make your enemy's job as difficult as can be. I say only ghandi hop if you have the first shot and you are in a tight area but in an open area strafing is better. as for four shoting keep good accuracy and aim for the body on the first three shots and finish up on a fourth shot to the head
